Travel Skincare
In a couple of days, I will be on a very long flight (14 hours) to the Philippines and from past experiences, I know that the dry, recycled air on planes wrecks absolute havoc on my entire body. I get stuffy, I get fatigued, and my skin is just on a whole other level.
My skin has gone through some major changes in the past almost 2 years and so for the past couple of months, I’ve been on a pretty strict skincare routine to try and gain some control over it and it’s been really working out for me. So the LAST thing I want is to send my skin back into a downward spiral! My goal was to find a skincare routine for the actual flight, that was minimal and allowed me to keep my skin fresh without actually having to use the water on the plane because let’s face it, airplane bathrooms get gross real quick on long flights and I’m trying to limit my time in them lol.
I will be wearing light makeup for blogging and vlogging purposes between flights so it was important for me to find wipes that would be able to take off at least most of my makeup without leaving that gross oily/greasy feel on the face that some makeup wipes tend to give you. I’ve been using these Neutrogena Natural purifying makeup wipes for the past couple of weeks on a recommendation I get and I love them! They do exactly what I’m looking for, they smell great, and even better: they’re natural!
Next up are sheet masks, I bought the antioxidant one from Karuna that’s meant to replenish and protect your skin. It also has hyaluronic acid which is SO moisturizing and as soon as I saw that as one of the ingredients, it was like yes, yes, yes, I’m buying this. The other one I picked up was by When and it’s their travelmate mask, I plan on using this one on the flight back, and it’s meant to restore your skin. I’m excited to use both of these!
I’ve been meaning to pick up and try out the b6 complexion spray from Urban Decay since it first came out. It claims to reduce redness and minimize pores among other things. It’s also supposed to soothe your skin which is why I decided it could be handy on the flight.
Next two items are the Sonia Kashuk Radiant Face oil and Ole Henriksen’s Truth Revealed super creme with SPF. I’ve been using both already and I think they’ve both been really amazing. I didn’t have super high expectations of the face oil because at the end of the day, it is a drugstore brand. I was super surprised to see how much my skin just loves this stuff! I have a bit of acne scarring on my cheeks and while my super creme has been helping with that because of the vitamin C, the face oil from SK has really been helping as well! The oil is a combination of oils that I don’t know off the top of my head right now, but whayever they are, they’re working wonders all together. Not only has it helped with scarring, but the overall appearance of my skin is looking better. It’s definitely less dull that’s for sure!
I’m excited to see how these products all work together! Fingers crossed for my skin y’all.

Sephora Haul

20140317-120819.jpg

This past weekend I had to run to Sephora as I ran out of foundation and concealer. Well here’s a real shocker, I bought more than foundation and concealer. My makeup addict part of me loves me, my bank account hates me.

I had previously posted about trying out Tarte’s Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. I’d say I’d give it a solid 6 out of 10. While it is a good product, it just wasn’t for me and my fast paced makeup routine aka I don’t wake up early enough in the morning to take my time. Also, too orange. Oh and also, the tube was a pain in the ass.

Whenever I run out of something, I like to try out different options, depending on how much I liked the product I jut ran out of. I was using Tarte’s Amazonian Clay foundation and was absolutely in love with it when I first bought it. However, over time I fell out of love with it. Maybe because what I thought was the perfect color match (I got color matched at the store) wasn’t exactly the right color. Or maybe my skin tone changed. I probably should pay more attention to myself.

Sephora was having a sale on Korres Cosmetics and they just happened to have a “complexion kit” with a full size concealer and foundation and a smaller size of their primer. I also picked up the creamy concealer crayon by Josie Maran and the dipbrow pomade from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

So far, so good! I’ll be sure to post reviews soon πŸ™‚ How was everyone’s weekends?

Makeup Monday

I currently go to cosmetology school and every Monday is our classroom day. Lately, we’ve been learning about skin and basic facials. Every time I think of skin, I just think of makeup… That means I have a problem right? Oh well. Anyway, I always get the biggest urge to go to the nearest Ulta or Sephora and pick up about 5000 different items. Unfortunately, 5000 makeup products are not in my budget. So today’s challenge was finding a concealer for preferably no more than 25 bucks. I currently use the Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon by Josie Maran

My god, this concealer has got to be the creamiest concealer I’ve ever felt. It was lightweight, buildable, covered so nicely (duh it’s a concealer), and blended in like a dream. For 20 dollars, I’d say that’s quite a steal. I know what you’re wondering. Why didn’t I just go buy it again? I bought it at Sephora and the closest Sephora to me is inside a JCPenny and if you’re not aware, those Sephoras only carry about a quarter of the brands a full size store does and it’s just my luck that Josie Maran is one of those brands not sold there. Now the second closest Sephora isn’t too far of a drive either, but guys.. It’s Monday. Also, no gas. Which was the main issue because I’d probably cave anyway and take the 40 minute drive. Plus, I’m always open to trying new things and hopefully gaining more favorites in the process, hence the need for a new concealer. Alright, enough with the mumbo jumbo. I stopped by my local Ulta and took a look at one of my favorite brands, Tarte, after being thoroughly disappointed with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Concealer Pencil (not creamy enough) and saw this sucker. The Maracuja Creaseless Concealer.

First off, let me just say that I was looking for something in a pencil format, much like the Josie Maran Concealer crayon as it is such a breeze to use and for people like me who tend to wake up at the last minute possible, a pencil is just faster. So while I was browsing, I originally had passed this up as it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. However after not being able to find anything else, I threw my hands up in the air and said YOLO (not really) and picked up a tester. I squeezed out literally a quarter of a pea sized amount onto the back of my hand and you would not believe how much it covered. Any guesses? Guys, it covered the entire back of my hand. Alright, so my hands are a little on the small side, but it immediately amazed me how little I needed to cover so much. My skin doesn’t need much coverage. Fortunately, I don’t suffer from awful acne or any acne scarring. So I only need concealer for the occasional breakout or blemish and seeing as I only needed a teeny tiny amount, this will probably last me quite a while. Not to mention that is everything I wanted: creamy, buildable, lightweight, blends easily, and covers. Also, it does say creaseless in the name and I read in a review that it’s quite tacky so I’m just gonna assume this could double as a primer if I ever ran out and needed some in a pinch. For 24 buckaroos, I think I found my new holy grail.. Although I’m not giving up on you Josie Maran, I’ll be back.

Since I was already going to purchase one thing, I figured hey, why not, let me buy something else. I really do have a problem… Anyway. I had ran out of cleanser about a week ago and was just using whatever what was in my shower which ended up being my moms anti-aging stuff. I’m 19. I was using Proactiv and wanted to move on to another skincare line because that stuff is not cheap and apparently, not all that fantastic for your skin anyway. I’m slightly biased towards the Dermalogica line because we do use it at school, but it’s also very pricey. As much as it’s worth it, it wasn’t worth it for me today so I took a look at the Mario Badescu line. I had heard about Mario Badescu from Meghan Rosette’s most recent favorites video, although I can’t remember what exact product, only that she absolutely loved it. The prices aren’t too bad either. I have combination/oily skin so I went with Enzyme Cleansing Gel. It was really nifty because they had everything sectioned out into specific lines based on your skin type and also had little color coded symbols showing all the skin types a certain product was aimed at.

I have a really oily T zone but the perimeter of my face is painfully dry so I wanted something that soak up all the oil in the middle of the face, but still keep the dry areas of my face moisturizer. This one said it would do the trick. It has a really nice fresh smell to it as it is an all natural skincare line and for 8 oz, it was only 12 dollars. I am just Ms. Budget Bailey today. Obviously I didn’t get to try it out in store, only got to smell it so I’ll be giving it a try for the next couple of weeks and hopefully I fall in love. I’ll let you guys know.

What’s your holy grail concealer? What skincare line are you currently using?
